There are times when we have the ability to go on a long, and probably much overdue, vacation, and where we can take our time exploring the area and truly get to know the local culture and community. However, there are also times where we can’t take such a long excursion, but rather must take advantage of a three-day weekend, a holiday, or perhaps just use the last of our vacation days. Well, even if you only find yourself with us for a short while, you’ll discover that there is plenty to do and see and that your short-term Scottsdale Arizona vacation can be just as memorable as a longer one. Day 1: Exploring the Desert

One of the best parts of the Arizona desert, and Scottsdale at large, is the near constant warm and lovely weather, even in the heart of winter. For this reason, the area is popular with hikers from all over the world, and once you hit the trails, you’ll see why! For instance, once could always head on over to Sunrise Trail for those looking for both a good hike and great views. You’ll find this 4.9-mile point-to-point trail is perfect for those looking for a good hike, but also some breathtaking views of the desert area. You’ll find that upon reaching the peak, you will have panoramic views of the Superstition Wilderness, South Mountain, Camelback, and the McDowell Range. If one is looking for a more strenuous hike, you might like to check out Tom’s Thumb Trail, which features a 4-mile out-and-back trail that features beautiful wildflowers and views of not only the McDowell Range, but also the Phoenix metropolitan area. Of course, there is also Camelback, which might seem short at only about 2.5 miles. However, this trail is famous for a reason, as in that short period you will also be hiking up to an elevation of 2,704 feet! However, if you manage to tackle this famously difficult climb, you’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of the metropolitan area stretched out before you.

You’ll find that heading out on a solo exploration has its own host of perks and things to be desired. However, on your second day, you might like to head out on a tour and truly learn about the area’s rich history, as well as see some sights few get to see. Head on over to REI Co-op Adventure Center, where you’ll have your choice between a variety of different tours ranging from mountain biking to walking, kayaking, and even rafting. You’ll also find that they don’t just offer a wide variety of types of tours, but also offer a range of difficulty levels to ensure that everybody has a good time, and nobody is pushed past their limits or comfort zone.

Day 2: Explore the City

Once you have your fill of the desert and the natural world during your Scottsdale Arizona vacation, you might like to spend your second day exploring the various urban activities that can be found around the city. For instance, you might enjoy heading on over to Casino Arizona, which offers a wide variety of entertainment options. There are of course the various games of chance which are always a fun way to spend an afternoon, but also live music for those looking to enjoy the rhythm, and even holiday celebrations and bingo! As well, make sure you check out the weekly art walk, which not only will have you exploring the galleries and seeing the very best that the area has to offer, but also enjoying live music and complimentary wine tastings and small bites.

One could also head over to the Butterfly Wonderland, the largest butterfly conservatory in the country. Enjoy exploring their artificial rainforest as you are accompanied by literary thousands of butterflies flittering about. Make sure you check out some of their other exhibits as well, which includes a 3-D theater. After that, one could always take some time to explore Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall, which stretches a staggering TWO MILLION square feet, thus making it the largest mall in Arizona. You’ll find all the famous designers from Gucci to Louis Vuitton, as well as the classic mall favorites such as Cinnabon and Jamba Juice. Speaking of, you’ll also find a wide variety of different restaurants located within for those looking for a nibble.

Day 3: Enjoy Some Good Drinks

Unknown to many, Scottsdale and Arizona as a whole is home to a number of award-winning breweries, not to mention quite a few wineries and vineyards. For instance, one could head on over to Carlson Creek Vineyard, where one can sample their selection of over 13 wines as you taste the fruits of their labor. As well, you’ll find they also offer a cheese board which is always a great compliment to their fine wines, and also good for those who might have missed breakfast. One could also head on over to Goldwater Brewing Co. which has grown over their 30 years and now distribute their brews to over 100 bars and restaurants. Their tap room is the perfect place to relax and try some of their ever-popular brews. You’ll find such drinks as the Hundred Dollar Pills (a Germany Pilsner), the Gnarly Nectar (New England IPA), and the Machine Gun Teddy (an American brown ale).
